Removing the weeds and making room for beauty!

Removing the Weeds and Providing Shape and Form

The first step to transforming the front yard was removing all the weeds that had taken over. We did this by chipping at it slowly using pickaxe and shovel. I would not recommend it, but since we have a small front yard we decided to do it this way. Once we removed the weeds, we applied a thin layer of compost and 3 inches of mulch on top. This really helped bring the soil back to life, it was the best thing we did in the process. Once we had an idea of the design we built in the swale, put in a little bridge and the first tree, which was a mulberry.

Once things started to take shape I put in the walk path. We started building the big things first and finally we put in the raised beds. For the raised beds I decided to use rocks from the backyard to outline them and some wood as well.
